Hello all, first time on the C3F site. Looks great so far!

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in organizing a joint expedition to "Pointless & Sadistic?" (GC1TM4P). It is a multi in Cunningham Falls State Park that requires a lot of hiking (the cache description doesn't state how much, but it has an "over 10km" attribute). It is a relatively rare D/T combo (4/4.5), and also is the key to unlocking several "bonus" mystery caches in the park. I have no idea when I'd want to do this (likely not till March or April) or how long it would take (likely 6+ hours) but I wanted to gauge interest, and I figured this group would be a good place to start.

So. Anyone up for it? [smile]

I think LPYankeefan and Tazscouter have experience with this cache or series, and maybe Deepdish23, perhaps they will chime in as well.  There was an event to storm the mountain last year and I think many of our membership may have attended.  Wasn't this the one where you sat on a log where there were copperheads underneath Deepdish?

I was one of the folks who joined in last time. We had a sizable group equipped with radios and broke into 4 small teams that allowed us to decide and conquer. Soccertoa gave me the opportunity to partially relive the experience the very next weekend when we had to rescale the mountain with metal detectors to look for her misplaced GPSr.

Pointless and Sadistic was originally a Clueseeker cache and was taken over by LPyankeefan.  There was an expedition is Fall of 2013 to do this cache. I met the group up on the mountain during the day but did not take part in the cache because I was unable to spend the whole day there.  As Denise mentioned her and Kris were there.
You will need approximately 4 groups with walkie talkies and a person located in the center to communicate with all the groups.  It will take most of the day to accomplish.  If you get a large enough group the pain of attempting this cache will definitely lessen.  I think Hixon is only person to ever complete this cache in one day alone, and even most groups have taken more than one day to finish.
In addition, you will be passing several other caches while on the mountain, many have accumulated several favorite points.

I am interested in going for the cache, We still need to get the Fizzy challenge, which is located on the Mt in the area.

I'll be interested once I am close to qualifying for the Fizzy Challenge. I may revisit this idea myself in a few decades....

I may be interested, as well.  I've got a couple challenge finals needed that are in the vicinity, plus this particular D/T.

Paul et al: Has anything come of this exchange?  Has a group formed to tackle this one?

I have some information that may be useful when completing this one. Expect to be on the mountain for the majority of the day. I would suggest at least 5 rf radios, as cell service is not the best. You will need at least one person to coordinate the different teams as they continue on the trek, radios can not reach the distance. They would need to stay near GC1AC87. Park here: GC477PT. If you have further questions, feel free to email me. tazscouter@gmail.com

All,

Haven't forgotten about P&S. Life has just been crazy, and I haven't had the chance to think about it for awhile. Sounds like a lot of folks potentially interested. November and December are really tough for me. January and February both work great schedule-wise, but very dependent on weather conditions and snow cover. March is a total no-go for me due to travel.

What would people think about picking 3 potential dates: one in January, one in February, and one in, say, April? That would give us a couple of backup dates in the event the weather is bad on our chosen day.

Let me know.
